The other day, I was doing some networking on Facebook, adding friends and following folk who had interesting content. I ran across a young lady who seemed to really positive and was producing some really powerful content as well.
I listened to one of her live videos and found her insightful and funny.
I sent her a friend request and sent a message basically telling her how much I enjoyed the value that she was sharing and that I’d like to connect with her.
After several hours, she sent a 3 paragraph response… Telling me all about her training in human behavior and the training that she had paid for Coaches from industry leaders like Eric Worre. She made several assumptions about me and my business ( without asking a single question ).and she went on to say that given her background and expertise there would be only three things that we could possibly talk about and all of those things revolved around me becoming her client.
I felt insulted and i unfriended her immediately.
That interaction actually bothered me for a few hours. I couldn’t put my finger on why I was so bothered, but I was.
Ultimately, I realized that what bothered me the most about the interaction was that the lady was basically saying, you bring no value to this relationship, and can be of no help to me unless you pay me.
Now I understand that you have to be serious about your business, but at the end of the day, every business is a “People business.”
We get paid to help people solve specific problems that they might be having.
I don’t know how her business is doing, but I do know this. She only saw me as dollar signs.
Many new marketers make the mistake of focusing on making money. But don’t realize that as long as they have dollar signs in their eyes that they will not be successful in their business.
Your prospects can see those dollar signs in your eyes and it will turn them off as a buyer.
If you want to grow your team and sell more products/services, you have to get the dollar signs out of your eyes and try to sincerely help your customers solve their problems.
If you are in the weight loss niche, then share with your audience tips and tricks to help them loose weight.
If you are are in the travel business help your audience by providing them with information on travel destinations.
Regardless of you niche, seek first to serve…
In the morning when you start your day, ask yourself, “How can I help as many people as I can today?”
One other thing that I realized from this encounter…
Don’t allow
