Your list, of course. You can send out an email or text message and speak directly to them, send them to your website or funnel and direct their journey. Once someone gives you their email address and are added to your list, you own that data. You can direct this traffic source where you want to – you have full control over where they go.
It is for this reason, that list building should be your #1 priority in the online environment. Turning traffic into traffic that you own is how smart marketers get results. Your goal should always be to turn the traffic that you can and cannot control into traffic that you own.
Traffic that you Control…
As a Facebook marketer, I spend a good deal of time money and effort using Facebook to generate traffic, leads, and sales for my business, but it’s still not as important as the traffic you own, it just keeps me in business. It’s what I do.
Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram are all examples of Traffic that you control. You don’t own the traffic, you just control where your audience goes – the destination. As a marketer, you can send that traffic wherever you want. Paid, controllable traffic keeps me off the streets, but it’s still not the best type of traffic. This is advertising traffic. You create a campaign and direct where they will land when they click on it, totally controlling where they are going to enter your funnel. Your objective here should be turning this traffic that you control into traffic that you own by getting them to jump on your list.
Traffic that you don’t own or control
Traffic that you don’t own or control is just traffic that comes into your funnel from various sources. You may not know where they come from. They just show up from wherever they are and you don’t have the ability to really direct them.
They’ve found you through SEO, an internet search, or even a post that a friend shared. People like to research so if you’re mentioned in a group or in a social media post, a lot will go look you up on Google or Facebook.
YouTube is another place that generates this type of traffic as it’s so easy to watch a video, then the next, and the next so you lose where they started.

5. Include photos.
Blogs with photo content get more views than blogs without them. A picture really does say a thousand words, so including one in your blog post makes it more visually appealing, plus you can use the image’s Alt Text to add some keywords to boost your SEO. You shouldn’t use any photos unless they’re public domain images or you’ve obtained permission from their owners. Instead, use clip art available at sites like Clipart.com for free.
6. Incorporate keywords.
Keywords are at the heart of search engine optimization (SEO). One way to increase traffic to your website is by ensuring that every page on your website has a keyword strategy. For each blog post you write (or plan to write), pick one keyword phrase that you think people might type into Google when looking for that topic. Now, add that phrase to the title of the post; the headline on the page; within the content on the posts at least twice; as a featured image on the post; and as part of the post link. Concentrating on keywords helps Google understand what that web page is about, which leads to more traffic from the major search engines.
7. Add video.
Google owns YouTube, which is one of the many reasons that videos can drive more traffic to your site. Supplement the written content on your blog with short videos that are informative and entertaining.

Once you are driving traffic to your website, you must be successful in converting traffic so as to generate sales and to build your team. ?In a pprevious post, I described the three types of traffic, those being
Cold Traffic – Traffic from people who no little or nothing about you or your products and services
Warm Traffic – Traffic from people who have been exposed to you and your content but have not yet opted in or bought anything from you.
Hot Traffic – Traffic from people who have opted in to your list or have actually bought something from you.
We can break down Hot traffic into it’s two types as well (opted in vs. buyers ).
So the question is, how do convert traffic from being “COLD” to “HOT”? ?Many new marketers throw their links all over the ‘net expecting someone to opt in to their list or to buy from them. ?The problem with this is that people generally only buy from those that they know like and trust. ?So if you haven’t built a relationship with your prospective customers, you really shouldn’t expect many people to either opt in to your lists or to buy from you.
The challenge lies in converting that cold traffic to hot traffic – moving your prospective customers from strangers to people who look to you as trusted adviser.
Converting Traffic by Creating Valuable Content
One way to do this is to consistently create content whether that be a YouTube video, a blog post or whatever you feel most comfortable producing – ?that informs, motivates or entertains your target audience . ?And give that content away for FREE. ?No opt-in or any other requirements attached.?Instead of using lead capture pages to ?build a list, you can use retargeting pixels to build a virtual list that will allow you to “follow” your target audience around the internet and to constantly market to them even though you don’t have their email address.
As you produce this content, you need to get it in front of your target audience. ?You can do this with paid advertising or with, my favorite method, Twitter. ?The more of your valuable content that they consume, the “warmer” they will grow to you and your offerings.
The more valuable content that you produce, the more successful you will be in converting traffic to your content and the more that your audience will grow to know like and trust you. ?And you can then start moving them through your sales funnel. ?1st by offering a free piece of content in exchange for their email address.
Once have been successful in converting traffic from warm to hot and you have their email address, you need to honor that relationship and continue to provide value via your emails. ?Don’t oversell. ?At this point these people are now considered “HOT”.
This is a process which takes time, planning and consistent implementation. ?So once you have hot traffic, especially buyers, you must treat those people as though they are gold… Because they are!

There’s always going to be a benefit in return when you’re buying data.
Don’t think that because you spend $ 100, $ 200, $ 300 and so on, on paid traffic and you don’t make it in sales, that you’re wasting money. Look at it as a mindset shift that you are buying data.
You want to know how the market is responding to your marketing campaigns. This is a big mindset shift because this is data belongs to you. No one else can use this data because you know how the market is responding to your paid advertising.
Data is king.
Don’t get emotional over not making sales. Instead, get emotional over the data that you’re going to get. I get excited because I want to know a certain demographic is going to respond to my marketing campaigns. Making sales is nice, don’t get me wrong. But if you focus more on the data, the money will follow.
If you’re starting off at $ 5 a day and you’re starting to get results, slowly scale up your ad spend. 100 to 200, upwards of 1000 and even beyond that. So this part right here, data is king, just remember that. That is the number one thing as far as knowing bind the data and knowing that data is king.
