The #1 Reason Why Prospects Don’t Buy
Have you ever gone through your sales presentation PERFECTLY only to find that your prospect STILL didn’t enroll or buy?
Why didn’t they buy your product?
I’ll explain the #1 reason why prospects don’t buy soon, but first…
Let me share a quick story:
I had a young lady on my team years ago. Very ambitious, talented and super likable.
She called me one day frustrated.
“Matt, I’ve shown the business to 16 people in a row and no one has enrolled!”
I thought that was pretty strange since I knew what a talented communicator she was.
So I started digging in to troubleshoot…
Me: Who are you showing?
Her: Friends, people I meet, you know just regular people.
Me: What are you saying to invite them?
Her: I’m using the 2 step text or the 4 step invite.
Me: Okay perfect. When you sit down with them, what are you saying?
Her: I’m doing the 3-Step Setup and then playing our video.
Me: Okay great. What are you saying after the presentation?
Her: Exactly what you train us on… “Awesome right – what did you like best?”
Me: Okay then what?
Her: They tell me what they liked best.
Me: Okay then what?
Her: Well. We just… kinda talk.
Me: Are you actually ASKING them to enroll?
Her: OHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Maybe you’ve “gotten” it already…
The #1 reason why people don’t enroll is that:
Drumroll…
They’re not asked!
This young lady then started asking people to enroll and guess what happened?
Yup.
She started enrolling people.
She was doing everything right EXCEPT she wasn’t asking for the sale.
Despite what the airy-fairy network marketing guru’s might like you to believe, we are not SHARE People – we are SALES People.
Sharing alone might make your feel good if you’re shy, but listen…
Shy salespeople have skinny kids.
If you want to actually make money and build a big team, ASK for the sale and teach your team to ASK for the sale.

Wouldn’t it be nice to know not just the #1 reason quit network marketing, but what you can do TODAY to ensure that doesn’t happen to your organization?

But first, the back story…
When I owned my own network marketing company, I hired the #1 retention firm in the profession run by a guy named Terrel Transtrum.
If you’re an owner or executive of a direct sales company, hire him immediately. Seriously, you and your distributors are losing money because you haven’t already. He’s amazing.
From his survey’s of thousands of distributors who quit, when asked why they quit, the #1 answer was…
The #1 Reason People Quit Network Marketing: Missed Expectations
Simply put, they expected it to be easier (or better) than it was.
There’s a big lesson there which I’m sure you’ve already realized…
- Don’t fill your prospects with false expectations
- Please, don’t over-inflate your products or services
- Don’t over-inflate your opportunity
- Eliminate the word EASY from your vocabulary (seriously)
When you over-sell and over-promise you end up with massive fallout
Yes, I KNOW it’s easier to recruit when you make it sound easier.
The challenge is that you recruit the wrong people. When you hype it up, you attract people who want something for nothing and you TURN OFF the real leaders who see through your bullshit.
And please don’t get me wrong.
I’m not saying not to promote your company as amazing.
And I’m not saying not to highlight the incredible income and lifestyle potential.
But let people know that if they want to win in a massive way, they have to be prepared to work in a massive way.
- It’s going to be an uphill battle
- It will be hard
- you’re going to get rejected over and over
- People are going to quit on you
- You’ll tell yourself all kinds of lies to justify quitting
- There will be a thousand more challenges
Prepare yourself for the challenge and EXPECT them because there’s no way of getting around them.
I speak from 24-years experience having almost every business challenge known to man thrown at me.
It’s been hard.
I’ve wanted to quit a thousand times.
There have been times when I seriously couldn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel.
But I understood that with great reward comes great sacrifice.
Hear this:
I can tell you with certainty…
Zero doubt…
The prize has been worth the price…
…and it will be for you too.
It actually scares me to think of what my life would be like right now had I given up and quit when things got difficult. I thank God for my level of determination.
So keep going, my friend.
It will be worth it.
