The most counterintuitive approach to double your rate of success in network marketing that you’ve ever heard…
Most people believe that top-earners come out of the gate knowing how to increase their rate of success in network marketing, don’t face challenges, or don’t face failures
I’m here to tell you…
That’s NOT true.
I still have people not call me back…
Not show up for presentations…
And straight up walk out of my presentations.
Let me share a quick story:
A few years ago I flew down to Houston, Texas to do a launch event for a new couple that was getting started in the business.
They had already done a launch event and it was HUGE!
A lot of people had come to the first event so I agreed to come to the second event.
I walk into their studio (where they’re doing the launch event) and it looked great!
We had rows of chairs all lined up, the stage was set, it was perfect…
…except for one thing.
THEY WEREN’T THERE YET!
Finally, the couple shows up a little late and it’s getting time to start the presentation…
…but there are no guests yet.
The couple that I had flown to Houston for either didn’t invite ANYONE or nobody they invited showed up.
I began my presentation anyway when a couple of people showed up.
Here comes the worst part…
The couple I flew down for LEFT about a third of the way through the presentation.
They walked out of their own meeting!
I laughed it off, had a great time on stage, and signed up the people who did stay for the whole presentation.
Not the results I was looking for, but we made the best out of it.
Chances are, if you’re in network marketing, the top leaders in your company are going through the same things you’re going through.
They get rejected…
Get told “no”…
Have people walk out of their presentations…
Get stood up…
Everything you can think of.
The key is this: Just do more of it!
My rate of success in network marketing increased dramatically when I decided…
I was going to detach myself from the results and I was just going to focus on the process.
The process, I decided, was going to be a lot of fun (which made me want to do it more)…
When you approach things from this perspective…
It’s easier to go all in and take massive action (without caring about what the results were going to be).
Yes, I wanted to make money, create results and enroll people…
…but I stopped focusing on that and focused on the process.
If you want to double your rate of success, then double your rate of failure
Go double, triple, and quadruple your rate of failure.
Get more no shows!
Be excited when people reject you.
Obviously, get better! I’m not saying screw up on purpose, but work on your skill and get better.
The more you fail, the more you’re going to have success.
Tom Watson, the founder of IBM, said, “If you want to greatly increase your success, double your rate of failure.”
So my friends, go fail.
Fail fast.
And increase your success.

Someone asked, “Hey Matt, what’s your favorite way to present your network marketing business? A live presentation or a video presentation?” I’m going to give you my favorite!
My favorite way to present my network marketing business
If I’m presenting to a big group, I usually go through a full PowerPoint presentation making sure it’s very detailed.
I want to be able to interact with the audience, tell some jokes and create a good rapport, however, if I’m in a one-on-one meeting or with a handful of people in an in-home presentation, I prefer video.
Why?
The DUPLICATION factor.
When you present your network marketing business…
You want to answer the number one question people have in their minds.
If you don’t answer this question they WILL NOT join.
“Can I do it? Can I Be successful?”
See, you can have the best product in the world but none of that really matters if they don’t believe they can actually be successful in promoting your network marketing business.
On the flip side…
If they really believe that you can make a lot of money or that they can be successful through following your system then they will almost always lock arms with you.
Now, I’m going to give you my 3-step closing formula when presenting your network marketing business through video.
Ready?
The 3-step formula to close someone when presenting your network marketing business
For the sake of the lesson, let’s say I’m talking to John.
Me: “John, I want you to pay attention to how little I have to do to explain this to you.”
Then I OVEREMPHASIZE pressing play on the video (signifying how easy it is to “explain the business to him”).
Once the video is complete I’ll say something like:
Me: “Awesome, right? What did you like best?”
*Wait for their response…
“Awesome! You know what? I couldn’t agree more. Now, I do have to ask you a question to see if you qualify to be successful with this.”
Now, this is counterintuitive.
What most people expect is for you to start selling them right away on your business but when you ask a question like that…
All of a sudden you’ve got posture, seem to not have much emotional attachment if they join or not and you’re qualifying your prospect.
Then you’re going to say something like:
Me: “Do you think you have the ability to push play on a video like I just did with you?”
What do you think they say every single time?
Yes!
So, step 3: Congratulate them!
Me: “Congratulations! You qualify. Welcome to the team!”
Put your hand out (signifying the deal has been made)…
…and get them plugged in and let them know that you’re going to show them exactly how to make all their money back in the next few days.
Boom!

I’m sure you’ve thought the same thing, right?

I would love to say there was just one thing…
It would make things A LOT easier.
But, if I were being honest…
There were a lot of things that created my “overnight success” in network marketing
Maybe I should re-phrase…
There were a lot of things that created my 5 YEAR overnight success in network marketing.
The reality?
I reinvented myself.
When I was living out of my car at the age of 21…
Bathing in gas station bathrooms…
And showering naked in the rain…
I was miserable, lonely, and thirty thousand dollars in debt.
It seemed as if nothing positive could happen in my life.
So, I made a conscious decision to reinvent myself.
What does that process look like?
Number one: Change your belief about yourself
If you want to create “overnight success” in network marketing…
You’ve got to change your belief about yourself.
Change your identity.
You have to change who you believe you are because…
…You’re always going to get in life what you believe you deserve you should be getting.
Personally, This was a hard one for me.
I had to read a lot of books about belief systems while learning to change my confidence.
Things change when you learn how to confidently present to someone.
You can’t imagine what will happen to your life when you LEARN to be more charismatic…
When you can train yourself to smile more and…
Learn to be happy despite the circumstances
When you’re happy & smiling…
Other people are more attracted to you.
It will change your ability to communicate.
You no longer will have that little voice in the back of your mind saying,
“Are they judging me?”
“What are they thinking about me?”
If you want to learn how to become an “overnight success” in network marketing, you must…
Develop your sales skills…
Learning how to overcome objections.
Build your leadership ability…
Learning how to move people.
How to get people to follow you.
Learn how to inspire people to do things that they normally wouldn’t do!
Show other people you believe in them.
Become authentic and open yourself.
Share yourself with others.
There is no ONE thing for overnight success in network marketing. It’s all of these things.
If you have the desire to go out and live a great life…
Whether that’s financial freedom…
To be an inspiration to millions…
Or to make a dent in this universe…
Realize that no matter where you are in life, you can do it.
There is a cost, however.
Change.
Success will require ONE thing of you…
MASSIVE change.
You’re going to have to change your belief systems, your identity, things you value, and you’re going to have to commit to the process of becoming a better version of yourself.
Get excited about the process because as you continue to grow, you’re going to, over time, look back at yourself and think “wow… I can’t believe I’ve come this far”.
It won’t be a list of accomplishments…
Cars…
Or homes you’ve been able to obtain…
… but knowing that you became the kind of person that deserves to have those things.
Keep immersing yourself in personal development and continue with the process.
You will get there.

What to say when recruiting hesitant prospects in network marketing
It’s a sad reality that man people are nervous…
They’re hesitant…
…and they’re skeptical.
There are people who are scared to even look at your opportunity.
Maybe it’s because they’re scared of the risk of getting “pressured”.
Whatever the reason…
The bottom line is they’re hesitant to look at what you’re wanting to show them.
So, I’m going to give you something that my mentor told me.
It’s something that really allowed me to increase my results when it came to having people look at my opporutnity.
Number one for recruiting hesitant prospects in network marketing:
If people are hesitant; if they are a friend of yours…
Realize – they believe you are going to use your friendship as leverage to talk them into your opportunity.
How do you get around that?
Say something like, “John, I’m not asking you to buy anything, do anything or sell anything. I’m just asking you to look because it’s important to me. Can I count on you for that”
Let’s break down the psychology behind that response…
You’re just asking them to look, right?
They decide on their own whether or not they do anything, buy anything, or sell anything.
So, they view it as reduced risk.
Now, when you say “because it’s important to me”…
That’s where the magic happens!
Recruiting hesitant prospects in network marketing get’s a lot easier when you use the word “because”
There’s a great book called, Influence by Robert Cellini…
If you’ve read it, the book talks about the power of the word “because”.
People are more likely to do things if you give them a reason.
If you say, “because it’s important to me”, it’s kind of like saying, “If I were you, I’d look because it’s important to you.”
Next, “can I count on you for that?”
When you say “can I count on you”…
They will naturally want to say “yes”.
Why?
We, as human beings, have this natural urge to be someone who can be counted on.
It’s a character thing.
This is the PERFECT script to say if someone is a little hesitant about joining your network marketing opportunity.
Recruiting hesitant prospects in network marketing who say “Can you tell me more about it?”
Realize – your enrollment ration and sales percentages will always be higher belly-to-belly.
You’re more likely to close somebody face-to-face than over the phone.
If you start explaining it to them, that’s you being a salesperson and if you want them to be a part of the opportunity side, it’s very important that you are not perceived as a salesperson.
Why?
95% of the people in the world do not like to sell!
So, if you’re selling it over the phone, they think they’re going to have to sell it over the phone!
Since people don’t want to sell, it doesn’t matter how great your opportunity is, they’re very unlikely to say “yes”!
So, here’s what to say:
“John, it’d be like trying to give a haircut over the phone. It’s impossible!”
When you say the word “it’s impossible”…
If they ask you again, “come on, can’t you tell me what it is?”
That frames you for saying something like,
“Dude, I just told you it’s impossible.” or something like “Dude, I wouldn’t be asking you to meet in person if I could explain it over the phone, would I?
Use these scripts, share this with your team and watch your numbers bump up dramatically.

Everybody’s end goal is to continue to grow their network marketing business. Today I want to cover three simple steps that you can take to grow the right way and find success in the future. How committed are you? Read the three steps and ask yourself if you’re willing to take those steps.
STEP #1 – BE PROUD OF THE EFFORT YOU HAVE PUT IN
Misrepresenting the facts is really hurting Network Marketing.
When a person is so focused on signing up a new recruit that they are willing to minimize the effort, skill, and time it takes to build a successful Network Marketing business, they are hurting the profession as a whole. Further, you are creating an illusion that is not real, and will more often than not result in fast distributor drop out when they realize it requires actual work.
The old adage goes, “honesty is the best policy”, right? Tell your prospects how much effort is needed. Make them aware of the steps you took. Share the skill you had to learn and point them in the direction for future education. Do NOT tell them that it “practically grows itself,” and “it is so easy anyone can become a millionaire in three weeks.” Misrepresenting the facts will only lead to failure in the future.
Our stories are what relate to other people. When you tell your story to a prospect, they will think one of two things. “There is no way I could go through all that,” or “I am up for the challenge, let’s do this!”
Being honest with your prospect from the beginning will automatically weed out the people who do not have what it takes. It will save you time, money and effort down the road.
STEP #2 – INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE
There is almost no career on this planet that does not require training. As Network Marketers we have to learn a ton of skills. You have to wear so many different hats that at times it helps just to list them out.
- Marketing Guru
- Communication Expert
- Product Expert
- Motivational Coach
- Time Management Wizard
- Recruiting Agent
- Team Leader
The list goes on and on but the need to learn something new every single day does not change. I encourage you to take time each day and advance your skills in each of these areas. Then when you recruit someone new make sure you convey your routine. It will not only prepare that recruit for what lies ahead, but it will make you the authority on how to succeed in Network Marketing.

Rejection in business is inevitable. So, how do we best handle rejection in network marketing and use rejection to our advantage?
How to handle rejection in network marketing
If you’re the BEST closer in the world…
You’ll most likely close 1 out of every 3 prospects you present your opportunity to.
What does that mean?
It means you’re going to get rejected twice more than you’re going to get a “yes”.
Even the “best closers in the world” get rejected more often than they get the “yes”.
Now, as you can imagine, most people get rejected more often than every 2 out of 3 people (for some of us it’s more like 1 out of 10… or 1 out of 20!).
Because of this fact…
I want to let you in on a little secret.
A secret as to how to get PAID FOR “NO”.
Ready for it?
Re-wire your brain to handle rejection in network marketing.
Every time you get rejected, I want you to think “Cha-Ching!!!!”.
Let me explain…
Obviously, we get paid – through commission – if somebody says “yes” to our opportunity and purchases our product.
Bear with me here…
If it’s impossible to get every person you show to say “yes”…
Meaning it’s impossible to get a “yes” without a “no”…
…and we get paid for “yes”…
In essence, you’re also getting paid for the “no”!
The only way to get more people to say “yes” – closing more sales – is to get more people to say “no”!
Every “no” moves you closer to a “yes”!
When you adopt this mentality…
You stop trying to avoid rejection and, instead, seek it out!
I understand that rejection hurts!
In fact, one of the biggest reasons why people quit network marketing is because they hate rejection.
That’s why re-wiring your brain to associate getting paid with someone says “no” is not the ONLY strategy to use…
Keep your dreams in front of you to handle rejection in network marketing
Strategy number 2: KEEP YOUR DREAMS IN FRONT OF YOU.
The key to WINNING and having success in life is desire.
How do you get a lot of desire?
You must have dreams.
Dreams are the fuel that fires desire.
Personally, when I was first getting started I had a vision board.
I put pictures of beautiful beaches, places I’d like to travel, my family, and a few other dreams onto a big poster board that I was able to look at every day.
This allowed me to focus on my dream of having the ultimate time & money freedom to travel the world and to do what I wanted whenever I wanted so when the rejection came…
It didn’t deter me.
Envision what you want for your life EVERY day.
Realize that “no” gets you closer to a “yes” and rid yourself of your rejection fears!
Go make it happen!

What makes handling disappointments in network marketing so challenging is
the simple fact that most people don’t expect there to be many disappointments – Especially as it relates to leadership.
The “it’ll be better when…” mentality
So many people, when it comes to network marketing, get involved in network marketing and struggle!
The mindset is always, “It’s going to be better when…” or “It’s going to be amazing when…”.
It reminds me of when I was a kid…
When I was in elementary school, I wanted to go to middle school.
While in middle school, I wanted to go to high school.
Once in high school, I wanted to go to college.
We’re always thinking that somehow it’s going to get better as we progress or as we get older.
If you’ve lived at all…
You understand that’s rarely the case.
The reality of leadership is:
The higher the level of leadership, the more you’ll more skills you’ll need to develop when it comes to handling disappointments in network marketing.
Why?
Because there will be more disappointments!
As you develop large organizations, there are just more things that can go wrong.
There are more people and any time you get a lot of people together…
Crazy drama is likely to ensue.
If I take a look at my career over the course of the last 23 years, building teams that I’ve grown to over a million customers…
I would say the last 9 years have been the best experience I’ve ever had in network marketing.
We’ve intentionally created an amazing culture within’ my organization.
Even though the culture is phenomenal…
There’s still drama and craziness that goes with it.
There are still disappointments.
If you’re not prepared for disappointments, you’re not prepared for leadership
We’ve got to stop expecting everything to be perfect all the time.
Great leaders become great leaders because they become good at disciplining their disappointments and handling challenges.
Instead of wishing there were fewer challenges, be grateful for the challenge.
If there weren’t a lot of challenges, you wouldn’t really be a great leader, would you?
Why?
There isn’t a great leader out there that doesn’t go through challenges.
Look at some of the greatest companies & founders in history:
Steve Jobs,
Uber,
Bill Gates,
They’ve all been through an incredible amount of challenges.
So, first:
Stop expecting there to not be a lot of disappointments.
How do we deal with disappointments in network marketing when they come up?
Let’s say something happens that’s a major disappointment…
Because you’re so disappointed – you hang onto that disappointment and you grieve over that disappointment and you’re so upset about the disappointment and you blame everyone else about your disappointment and you think, “What could I have done differently?”
You beat yourself up because of the disappointment and can’t seem to get out of this funk.
Here’s the key: The more you focus on the disappointment, the longer it hangs around.
The longer it hangs around, the longer your grieving process is.
So, I’m going to give you two key-words that I used to help me overcome going out of business, being $ 750k in debt and losing almost everything…
Ready?
Over & Next.
Here’s the way I look at disappointments: There’s going to be some people who are so disappointed that they’re not going to go after their goals and dreams again.
Why?
Average people don’t experience a ton of disappointments the way great leaders do… so they don’t know how to handle them!
So you have to choose:
Do I want to sacrifice my purpose so that I can live a very average life and not have to experience these disappointments?
Of course not!
The key-words “over” & “next” help to remind me to move forward and put the past behind me.
If you’ve got something going on in your business and you’ve been dwelling on the negative…
You’ve got to do everything in your power to say, “You know what? That is over. Next! We’ve got to move on. Great leaders move on.”
Otherwise, you’re never going to rise to your potential.
When handling disappointments in network marketing, realize…
If you’re focused on disappointments, you’ll never reach your fullest potential.
Part of my mission in life is to continually rise to the highest level of potential that God has for me.
I understand that if I’m dwelling on the disappointments…
If I’m losing sleep over disappointments…
Or if I’m crying over disappointments…
I will never get to rise to that potential and live up to the rest of the purpose that I have for my life.
So say to yourself, “over & next”.
Move on, move forward, and make it happen.

The first step in knowing how to become a great leader in network marketing is knowing what great leaders DON’T do.
I was on a call with a VERY strong leader on my team…
…but he said something that I find is one of the reasons why a lot of leaders don’t rise up to the potential that they have within’ them.
If you want to be a bad leader…
You should say things and act in a manner that is not consistent with the greatest leader that you want to be.
What man bad ‘leaders’ will say things like, “Once I achieve a certain level of leadership…
Once I achieve a certain level of income or rank, THEN I will be a great leader and then act like that great leader.”
This, obviously, is not the way to becoming a leader.
So, the leader on my team said, “Well, I’m not like you!”.
Whenever you say something like “Well, I’m not like you”, you’re saying that you’re not as good as someone else.
You’re always going to be second best…
Second best thinkers are always second-best doers.
As long as you keep saying, “I’m not an expert”, you’re never going to be the expert!
A leader in network marketing acts as if…
You’ve got to act as if you already are the greatest leader of all time.
Stop saying things that a top leader in your company would not say.
Sounds fairly simple, right?
If you take the top leader in your company – the person that you aspire to be like – look a the things they say.
Study their mannerisms…
Their vocabulary and speech patterns…
Take all of this and simply to do things that leader would do.
I remember when I was new and had a team that grew to a few hundred people.
My mentor pulled me aside and said, “You’re a leader when you decide to be. You’re a leader when you act like a leader.”
Such a simple statement was so profound for me at the time, however, it didn’t truly click for me until putting my buddy and me through a demonstration…
Leaders lead… right?
My buddy and I were standing next to each other asking my mentor more about leadership…
He moved his head (in a “follow me” fashion) and started walking around the car.
My buddy and I started walking around the car where he was.
We walked all the way around the car and then we stopped.
My mentor asked, “what just happened?”.
He led…
We followed.
That’s what great leaders do.
What are the greatest things that a leader would do?
Ask yourself…
“What would an incredible leader do?”
I asked myself this question and came to the conclusion: Great leaders would do a weekly leadership call every Monday night!
So, I read books and studied leadership.
I’d read John Maxwell books, network marketing books and anything I could get my hands on!
I took notes profusely!
Guess what I talked about on our leadership calls?
I just read my notes!
Literally, I would read my notes from what I had read and learned and would spit the information out to my group.
An interesting thing started to happen…
I suddenly had so many people saying, “Oh my God, Matt! You’re this amazing leader. I can’t believe the information that you give us. I can’t believe the mentorship that you give us!”.
This was the “holy shit!” moment…
People want to follow others…
You will only lead others if people perceive you to be at a higher level leader than themselves.
Notice the keyword: Perceive.
If you act like a leader, people will perceive you as a leader that they want to follow.
It’s as simple as that…
Leadership is incredibly simple once you understand how simple and easy leadership really is.
Everyone thinks leadership is so hard when in reality, asll you have to do is the things that a leader would do.
If you feel unconfident…
Do the thing anyway! Nobody knows that you’re unconfident.
If you’re scared…
Do the thing you’re scared of! Nobody knows you’re scared except for you.
If you’re fearful…
Do the thing that you’re afraid of over and over again.
Why?
The more you do it, the more the fear goes away.
Eventually, you will become confident inside, you won’t feel the knots in your stomach, and you’ll rise to the level internally that you ultimately want to be.
You’ll feel like the leader you’ve always wanted to be.
